Constitutions

Constitutions are a relatively new concept within the scope of human history. Prior to the ratification of the U.S. Constitution in 1787, nations around the world functioned without them. By now, however, most countries have a codified document resembling a form of constitution (Reshanov, 2023). The Annenberg Guide to the United States Constitution provides fine commentary on each article and amendment within that document.

In addition to the U.S. Constitution, each state has its own constitution. State constitutions, such as the Texas Constitution, may provide its residents with additional protections, but not less, than what is required in the U.S. Constitution, which provides a baseline of fundamental rights for its citizens.
