Why Open Access?

The price of academic resources, such as subscriptions to journals and databases, is very high. And prices continue to rise!

The McDermott Library subscribes to 383 electronic databases and 247,997 eJournals and newspapers. These resources provide scholars at the University of Texas at Dallas with access to a wide range of resources.

Yet access to materials is often restricted to many other scholars with limited funding and community members at smaller colleges/universities. These researchers may find a paywall barring them from materials they need.

But paywalls need not disrupt research. Open Access can make research available to all scholars, such as adjunct professors, independent researchers, and students. Regardless of financial backing, everyone will have access to research.

If you are a scholar, please consider publishing your research within an Open Access journal!
