Benefits:
  • Article Processing Charge: Waived, when submitted to eligible journals

Note: There are no charges to be paid by the author under this agreement, with the exception of Japanese Journal of Applied Physics (publication fee), and Applied Physics Express (which requires a publication fee for manuscripts accepted before November 17, 2023, when this publication flips to Gold Open Access).

  • Easily comply with research funders with open access stipulations
  • The author retains copyright control of their work
  • The author may choose to publish open access

IOP (Institute of Physics) will retroactively, at the author’s request, flip papers to Open Access that were submitted during the term of this agreement.

  • Open Access articles will be published under a Creative Commons CC-BY 4.0 Attribution license:

Ownership of copyright in the article and all other proprietary rights remain with the Corresponding Author. The Corresponding Author retains the rights to reproduce, distribute, and publicly display the article in any form or medium; to prepare derivative works from the article; and to authorize others to make any use of the article, provided that proper full attribution is given to the original IOP publication.

To be eligible, articles must:
  • Be submitted by a Corresponding Author who is a current staff member, faculty member (permanent, temporary and visiting), researcher (permanent, temporary and visiting), or student of The University of Texas at Dallas
  • Be original research. Types include: research papers, special issues, letters, and review articles
  • Have manuscript accepted for publication in a qualifying Open Access / Hybrid journal
  • Be accepted for publication from January 2023 through December 2025

Eligible Journals:

Visit the Eligible Journals for Transformative Agreements webpage to review eligible publications from IOP Publishing. The two journals in "List C" are excluded from UT Dallas's agreement.

IOP's Journal Finder provides a filtered search to help you narrow to your desired subject area.

"Where Do I Begin?"

There is almost no change from the normal article submission method. You will answer a few prompts and IOP will do the rest of the work to ensure that your Open Access preferences are met and any eligible Article Processing Charges are waived.

Go to IOP's Guide to Submitting Under a Transformative Agreement for step-by-step guidance through this simple process.
