Department Liaisons

Liaison Program

The McDermott Library Liaison Program works with UTD's different schools of study to assist with the research needs of faculty and students. A librarian is assigned to each School or program to improve our outreach and assistance to faculty.

The goals of Liaison Services are to:

  • involve faculty as much as possible in managing the library's collection.
  • identify and communicate regularly regarding curriculum-specific library materials and services.
  • facilitate faculty and student access to all library collections and services.
  • provide general and tailored instruction sessions to faculty, research staff, classes, student groups, and individuals.

Liaisons can assist you with adding materials to the Library. In addition, these librarians are available to provide instruction on using the library for your UTD classes or groups. Finally, the librarians can assist with library research.

A Library Liaison can ...

Visit Departments or Teams - Give presentations and demonstrate new library resources and services for programs or departments

Collaborate on course assignments - To provide opportunities to develop information literacy skill building

Provide awareness of complete spectrum of library services and resources - To identify and/or obtain appropriate resources for your course/assignment

Serve as an "Embedded Librarian" in your course management system - To answer library related questions for students at the point of need

Deliver classroom based training - To instruct students to critically assess information sources for quality, accuracy, and usability; to use the library's subject information sources; to teach students to understand and avoid plagiarism

Meet with Faculty One on One - Consult with you on your information needs and direct you to the best information resources

Create Research Guides  - Collaborate with you to build research guides for your subject area or a specific course. If there is already a guide for your program, it is linked to the program on the Find Your Liaison page.

Below are guides that might assist students in any course.
