Selected reference tools for the study of general science

Encyclopedias are a great tool to use when beginning a research project.  Entries in encyclopedias are frequently written by experts within their field and provide a good overview of your topic of interest.  They can also provide ideas and new perspectives about a topic as well as point to good sources for further research.
